4 out of 5 stars Maybe I don't care after all   August 23, 2010
Gardenia (South Carolina)
I enjoyed reading this book, after all who doesn't want to know how not to look fat?
But most of the tips were things I already knew and I ultimately found out that I love fashion and variety more than looking skinny.
So, I look heavier with some turquoise cargo pants and flats. I don't want to give those up for a life of dark pants and boring colors.

Granted, my extra pounds aren't that much and I am 6', and flats it is whether they turn me into a blimpo or not, and although there are many clothing items I need to eliminate from my wardrobe to look more svelte, I'm going to keep wearing them because I like cargo pants, ruffles, ballet shoes, capris ( a casual staple here), brightly colored PANTS and....spanx are hot when it's 100 degrees and 89% humidity.

This book has made me more aware of all the short apples in the world and how they dress and really, nothing is going to hide a pumpkin- so wear colors and styles that bring you joy and happiness and don't worry about it so much- but please- for the sake of everyone else, try to cover it up some.

I do wish the book had addressed the casual side of dressing more. Frequently, the before and after pictures were a casual look moving to a dressier look. I would like to have seen a casual before (going to the grocery store look) and a casual after - AND, not by adding long sleeves or a jacket.
Hey, it's HOT in a lot of places.

Overall, I do recommend this book just so you'll know, in case you didn't, and will be prepared when you want to look your thinnest.
It's fun to read.

3 out of 5 stars lacking in variety   August 3, 2010

I had hoped that this book would give great dressing ideas for every day dressing. I dont wear dresses or high heals, so for me this book did not do alot. I would imagine for women who need to dress up it would be a good purchase.

I have both of Charla's books and since I have been following her tips I have received a lot of compliments. I feel great too! There are various level of advice you can follow starting from very easy tips. Charla provides product names and pricing which is very helpful. It is easy to figure out what will work the best for you. I highly recommend both of her books.

2 out of 5 stars High maintenance   June 29, 2010

Wearing bike short type underwear? Gee that sounds like fun in 95 degree weather. This is definitely for the high end consumer, not for an average or low income woman. Prancing around everywhere in high heels, spandex and black pantyhose is just not my idea of living. While I read this in summer, I can definitely see that winter wouldn't be any more practical, thinning down the clothing is not something most people can afford to do in artic like temperatures. She's assuming that everyone has nothing but AC or high heat wherever they go, but in the real world, you do have to be outside occasionally.
One plus of the book is that the pictures show a definite improvement in the look of the models. I've always hated seeing a poor fat unidentified person on the street compared with a tiny little Hollywood starlet, but her pictures are at least of the same person in both pictures and they did indeed make a difference... if you can afford it.

4 out of 5 stars Great book to refer to when you feel chubby!   June 26, 2010

Charla has great insights and ideas to tweak a wardrobe when the temptation is too high to just be "comfy" and sloppy looking. I was starting to purchase items that were just too big and she inspired me to work a bit harder on the posture and undergarments to give me a better look. I am now purchasing separates that give me more structure and make me feel really put together.
