Product Description
We are at our best when we feel comfortable, confident and at ease-when we know we look fantastic. That's when we nail a presentation, land a job, snag a date, and click with friends-and yes, all of this can be influenced by color. There's a secret to knowing what to wear and when to wear it so that you can maximize any opportunity, whether it's in love, at work, or with family. The Color of Style will give you the key to harmonizing your wardrobe colors with what you wear every day: your very own body.

You have 8 basic colors. Here's what they are and how to find them:

There are 5 colors that express who you are:
* Your Essence Color: Your vulnerable color; your version of white, a skin tone that harmonizes the colors in the palm of your hand
* Your Romantic Color: Your passion color, your version of red found by gently pinching a fingertip-or the color of when you blush
* Your Dramatic Color: Your "look at me" color, your version of blue, found in the color of the veins in your wrist
* Your Energy Color: The color that supports you when you need a pick me up, taken from the darkest part of your iris (but not the ring around the iris)
* Your Tranquil Color: Your peaceful color, taken from the lightest part of your iris

And 3 neutral colors that complete your wardrobe basics:
* Your Version of Black: the most flattering dark color for you, taken from the ring around your iris
* Your Version of Brown: a more casual, medium-dark shade, taken from the darkest part of your hair
* Your Version of Khaki: your best light color, taken from the lightest part of your hair

David Zyla's system shows how to wear each of these colors-as an accent in a print, an accessory, or a solid, and solves the mystery of what color to wear to any life event, from formal to casual, from job interview to first date. The Color of Style will tell you what colors your winter coat should be, your spring sweaters, your summer dresses, your business suit and your black tie outfit (stay tuned, because it's probably not black). Armed with the 8 colors, and your style DNA archetype (you have 24 to choose from), you'll spend less on clothes because you'll make fewer mistakes. And if you've already made a few bad choices, The Color of Style will show you how to fix them without spending a dime.

David Zyla's mission is to show you how to color yourself with your own pop- from-the-pack brand and what colors to wear to attract love, enhance your power, restore your energy, make a lasting impression, and show the world who you really are.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting Read, But...   August 19, 2010

This is a terrific book in some ways - finding your personal colors in particular is a good exercise. I found my personal colors in about an hour.

What I'm having trouble with are the 6 archetypes. In Color Me Beautiful, I'm a Cool Summer. In David Kibbe's Metamorphosis, I'm a Soft Classic. In The Color of Style, I don't know what the heck I am.

A lot of the celebrities he lists for various kinds of Summer are not Summers. Tina Fey? Julia Louis-Dreyfus? Juliana Margulies? Katherine Heigl? There aren't that many brown-eyed white Summers in the world. How can there be that many in Hollywood? Of all the Summers he lists, the closest I am to any of them in coloring is Maggie Gyllanhaal. I can't figure out whether I'm a Classic Summer or a Dusky Summer or something else entirely.

3 out of 5 stars Interesting read, but not very helpful...   June 28, 2010

I have read the book and I am not sure if I agree with the idea that we need to limit our wardrobes to just 8 colors. Surely we can wear more colors than just 8. Also, once you figured out your season, you're supposed to look for your archetype (6 per season), and that's not very efficient. Personalities are a much more complicated thing.

5 out of 5 stars Focuses on helping women find colors that 'pop' for them   May 17, 2010

THE COLOR OF STYLE: A FASHION EXPERT HELPS YOU FIND THE COLORS is a top pick for any general lending library. It focuses on helping women find colors that 'pop' for them, understanding why certain colors or styles work and others do not, and developing a True Color sense in 3-style approaches. Any library strong in fashion and style, and any general collection, will welcome this approach.

I ordered this book as a gift for my college-aged daughter. I haven't really read it myself, but she seemed to like it.

3 out of 5 stars Perhaps a bit too wordy.   April 18, 2010

While this book does give great hints on how to find your "true colors" it could have been done in far fewer pages. There are, however, funny hints if that's what you need to get yourself motivated,i.e., after you figure out your dramatic color buy a bike in that color. It will make you pedal faster and harder! Hmmmm.
